| The Bowmanville Museum serves the Municipality of Clarington by increasing the knowledge of the history and pre-history of the area, and by making that knowledge available to the public by means of exhibits, publications, and programmes, including outreach programmes to schools and other groups, for the information and enjoyment of all visitors. As well as educational, the recreational needs of visitors to, and residents of, the Municipality of Clarington are emphasized, and the Museum's activities are co-ordinated with other local institutions in meeting these needs.
